About Me.

Nicole O'Brien BSc. RVT

I work with veterinary teams to improve workflow, strengthen communication, and create clinics that run with more clarity and less friction.

My background in veterinary medicine began in Nova Scotia, where I completed a Bachelor of Science at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, followed by my Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) training.

I spent the first 10 years of my career in small animal practice, building a strong clinical foundation and gaining a deep understanding of the day-to-day realities of general practice.

How I Got Here

From general practice, I moved into specialty medicine and later into a university setting, where my role expanded into clinical teaching, team leadership, and operational oversight.

This shift gave me a broader perspective, not just on patient care, but on how teams function, how systems support (or hinder) workflow, and why some practices feel consistently under pressure despite having capable people in place.

What I saw, again and again, was this:

Most challenges weren’t due to lack of effort, they were the result of misaligned systems, unclear roles, and workflows that hadn’t evolved.

That realization is what led me to build NextStage Veterinary Solutions.

How I Work

My approach is practical, observant, and grounded in real clinic experience.

I focus on understanding how your practice actually operates day-to-day, not just what’s written in protocols, but what’s happening in real time across your team.

From there, I help identify where inefficiencies, communication gaps, and operational strain are quietly holding your clinic back.

The goal isn’t to overhaul everything.
It’s to create systems and clarity that make your clinic feel more sustainable, more aligned, and more effective.

Professional Background

BSc. - Saint Mary’s University (Halifax)
Animal Health Technologist/RVT - Nova Scotia Agricultural Collage
10+ Years in Small Animal Practice
Specialty and ER Practice
Academic Veterinary Experience  - Clinical Teaching, Team Leadership & Operations

Grounded in practice. Focused on how clinics actually work.

If your clinic feels like it’s working hard but not always working smoothly, you’re not alone.

And in most cases, the solution isn’t more effort...it’s better alignment.
